Mountain Town is an Americana music group from Park City, Utah that brings you what they call “Americana Music from The American West” – traditional Country Music with Bluegrass and Folk influences. Yearning pedal steel guitar and rhinestone emblazoned suits on stage. Singer, songwriter and principal member of the group, Dr. Jon has been a performing his style of ‘Stories and a Song’ on small stages and house concerts for over 30 years. Most often booked as a solo act, Mountain Town brings you truth and authenticity.
The Ski-Town (and namesake of the group) of Park City, Utah is a tourism hub and its’ vibrant 7-days-a-week live music culture provides a rich musical landscape and a bottomless resource for songwriting. It a town where characters breeze in and out – and every local has a nickname. Arriving in 2000, Dr. Jon (who has practiced dentistry in Park City for more than 20 years) used session work and performance revenue to help pay off dental school and his practice loan.
After 14 years of full-time practice in Park City, Dr. Jon packed up a car-load of gear in pursuit of a faculty appointment and post-doctorate level teaching position with the US Navy. While stationed at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, he began to self-publish recorded music. In 2019, Mountain Town entered into a management and recording arrangement with London UK based record label The Animal Farm Music. Valuing musical diversity, the label encouraged Jon to continue releasing self-recorded material and works mixed and mastered at NashVox Studios and McKay Studios (Nashville, TN).
As a solo act, Dr. Jon brings you the music and stories of Mountain Town with the addition of tracked drum parts for high energy dance numbers and a harmony setting for the vocal mic that leaves the audience wondering ‘where is the backup singer?’ Mountain Towns’ debut album ‘Far From Home’ was released in August 2022. Not wanting to step away from the dental chair for too long now that he’s back home, popular venues include local bars, wineries and brewpubs in the western states. Loving the ‘Bluebird Café’ blend of storytelling and audience interaction, Dr. Jon’s favorite venues by far are house-concerts! Be it a Honky Tonk or an intimate House Concert – you’re in for a fantastic live show – be sure to bring your Cowboy hat!
Sinusoidal Music review of debut album 'Far From Home'
"Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
Frank Zappa. It’s a dark and brutal business and I have always felt like if Frank could find a place – then I can too."
"Writing specifically about our common struggles that unite so many of us, their debut album Far From Home features a diverse usage of instrumentation, dynamic vocal deliveries, a crisp production, and so much more."
"Now they bring us their most ambitious release to date with their debut album, titled Far From Home. Laying down sounds that stem from the traditions of the American West, the band writes about common struggles that many people encounter, creating a sense of relatability and connection in their songs."
